Ah, Ebay on a Sunday

March 30, 2008

I seem to have been spending alot of time on Ebay recently looking for stuff. Anyway, I have decided to sell some trainers and hats on ebay. The trainers are the Ben Drury designed Nike Air Max that came out a while ago. I bought these shoes and they were too big and I had lost the receipt so I couldn’t take them back. Doh!

Invasion In The UK

March 25, 2008

Inavsion In The UK Cover

I recently received this book as a present from my brother. It’s pretty interesting. I really like Space Invader‘s work and this is a great little guide to his invasions of the UK. It tells you about the ones in London, Manchester and Newcastle. If you are interested in his work, then it is worth checking out. It has all the maps for the UK And photos of all the individual invaders, as well as showing some of his studio work and work he has done exhibitions in the UK. It’s available from his website.

I don’t really know much about these guys, but this 10″ is amazing! Not only is it HEAVY on the drums, but it comes in a nice foil sleeve and is on red vinyl. There is no information on the sleeve, but I have managed to track down the following information about the record:

013

Check out DirtyDrums.com and their myspace page for more info. Seek out this 10″ it won’t be about for long.

Latest Voice Of The Seven Woods news!

March 24, 2008

It was great to hear some new Voice Of The Seven Woods news recently. Seems like he has a gig in Amsterdamn on the 29th of March, which is free. It’s happening as part of the Dwars Festival. He also said that online sales will be moving over to Tchantinler.com. Deliveries should be a bit faster and he will be putting out a limited cd to celebrate this new online shop. Cracking.

Hercules & Love Affair – The album

March 24, 2008

Hercules & Love Affair album cover

I know it probably got a proper name, but that is what I call it. This is cracking. I don’t really like Anthony from Anthony and the Johnsons, but I like it when he sings on this album. Other peopel sing on it as well. It’s all house and disco music, but with a great pop sensibility. You’ve probably heard Blind on the radio. Frankie Knuckles did a remix of it. Anyway, there are some classic retro sounding songs on this and some great disco cuts too. I can’t really think of what to say really. I like You Belong. This isn’t really like the 12″ they put out a awhile ago on DFA. This is more about songs than club tunes. I am sure this is going to be pretty big and essential listening throughout the year. Enjoy it! You can buy it in all good record shops and you should definitely do this.

My review of the latest Kelpe album.

March 24, 2008

Kelpe - Ex-Aquarium

Well, I finally managed to get my hands on the Kelpe album the other week, so I thought I would write a wee review of it. It’s pretty good. I can see why people compare him to Boards Of Canada and Four Tet, but he is quite different from them. I quite like this album. It’s pretty mellow. There are some stand out tracks on it. I really like Whirlwound. Its got some nice chord changes in it that are wicked. Please correct me if I am wrong about the chord changes? I don’t really know any music theory. Shipwreck Glue is stonking as well! That ping pong sample is great! Gotta love a song with ping pong samples in it. The album is quite electronic but definitely has a nice organic theme to it. Seems like he got a drum kit out and then sampled himself. Anyway, if you like electronic music, then get this. I missed him when he made played live in Glasgow recently, which is a shame. If he is playing near you, then get down to see him if you can. Anyway, the album is available from Bleep.com and all good record shops. Oh yeah, I reckon this album would sound really good if you were cruising about the sea in a boat!

Edinburgh Tips

March 22, 2008

Mama Said

I recently went to Edinburgh. I have some amazing tips for if you are going. Mama Said is a shop located half way up Cockburn Street. It has an amazing selection of soft drinks, as well as an ok selection of booze. I recommend the soft drinks though. They had some crazy stuff! I had a can of ice cream soda, which was incredibly sweet and had a stange ginger beer after taste. Wish I had taken a photo of the can, but I didn’t. Anyway, the owner of the shop was saying that he discovered the drink when he was down in England buying a car. It was two cans for a £1. Recommended. The other tip I have is for taking the train to Edinburgh. Normally I take the bus as the train is super expensive. However, at the weekend if there are 4 of you going buy your tickets at the train station. There is a deal where it is only £20 return for all 4 people! Baragain!
